Today, the Tech Hub was inaugurated in Al Mukalla at Hadhramout University, College of Girls, providing a comprehensive educational and training space aimed at empowering young women in the digital economy and enhancing their opportunities to access safe and sustainable sources of income.
The inauguration was attended by Prof. Mohammed Saeed Khanbesh, President of Hadhramout University; Mr. Fawzi Al-Hakimi, Digital Economy Consultant at the War Child Alliance; Dr. Najah Ahmed Basbaha, Dean of the College of Girls; and Mr. Mohammed Ba-Arabi, Field Coordinator at the Youth Leadership Development Foundation, alongside a number of academics and representatives of civil society organizations.
The hub targets 525 young women and adolescent girls aged 17 to 35, through specialized training programs that include digital skills, employability, and entrepreneurial development. The hub also provides intensive employability skills training for 325 women and adolescent girls, and business and entrepreneurial skills training for 200 women and adolescent girls, under the supervision of trained academic staff and using modern curricula aligned with labor market requirements.
In his speech during the inauguration, the President of Hadhramout University expressed his great pleasure with this national project, emphasizing that the hub represents a significant addition to the university and a genuine opportunity to support young women in Al Mukalla and across Hadhramout Governorate, enhancing their active participation in economic and social development.
The inauguration comes as part of the Empowering Yemeni Young Women and Adolescent Girls in the Digital Economy Project, supported by the European Union Delegation in Yemen, in partnership with the War Child Alliance, and implemented by the Youth Leadership Development Foundation, in coordination with Hadhramout University.
The opening of the Tech Hub reflects the commitment of all partners to empower young women in Yemen, representing a strategic step towards a prosperous future where digital and entrepreneurial skills drive economic and social development, affirming that investing in the capacities of young women is an investment in the future of society as a whole.
