As the global shift toward digital transformation accelerates, microfinance banks in Yemen have moved beyond their traditional roles to become strategic partners in the journey of women's economic empowerment. In a significant move, both Bin Dowal Islamic Microfinance Bank and Al-Amal Microfinance Bank have taken a qualitative step by opening official digital wallets for beneficiaries of the "Digital Financial Inclusion" training course, implemented by the Youth Leadership Development Foundation (YLDF). This initiative provides these young women with the keys to securely access modern financial services.
The three-day "Digital Financial Inclusion" course served as a true transformative journey for the participants, who transcended the barriers of theoretical knowledge into the realm of practical application. Throughout this training program, the young women grasped the core concepts of financial inclusion and its significance in fostering economic independence. Furthermore, they gained proficiency in secure digital payment and transfer tools and learned how to effectively leverage modern financial technologies (FinTech) to successfully manage their small businesses.
The step of opening digital wallets served as the tangible bridge connecting training to real-world application. Each beneficiary now possesses the ability to manage her funds with complete independence and high security standards, eliminating the burdens of traditional cash-based transactions. Beyond this, these wallets have become a vital gateway that enables the young women to build documented financial records, which will support their future opportunities for funding and investment, directly boosting their self-confidence and establishing long-term economic independence.
This initiative is part of the "Empowering Yemeni Young Women and Adolescent Girls through Access to the Digital Economy" project, implemented by the Youth Leadership Development Foundation (YLDF), funded by the EU Delegation to Yemen, in partnership with the War Child Alliance, in coordination with Hadhramout University, and in cooperation with the Istishraq Al-Mostaqbal for Consultancy and Development Office. These ongoing activities at the Girls Tech Hub reaffirm the Foundation's commitment to equipping young Yemeni women with the digital skills necessary for a sustainable economic future, recognizing that this strategic partnership with the banking sector represents the cornerstone for achieving true and effective digital financial inclusion in Yemeni society.
