Sanaa, 10 March 2014 –Yemen LNG observed today in Sanaa the International Women’s Day in the presence of the company’s female members of staff, representatives of civil society organizations, media and lady government officials including the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Jawhra Hamoud Thabet. The event was also attended by Dr. Ahmed Bin Mubarak Secretary-General of the National Dialog Conference.

Under the theme, ‘Inspiring Change’, event activities featured success and inspiring stories by some female staff followed by announcement of the winner of Yemen LNG Balqis Award 2014, the first of its kind granted by an energy company to recognize exceptional contributions of woman associations in Yemen.

This is the fourth year in a row Yemen LNG marks the Day to celebrate its female members of staff and recognize their contribution to the realization of the largest industrial enterprise in Yemen. They represent over 30% of the workforce of Yemen LNG employees in Sana’a.
In his opening remarks, Yemen LNG General Manager, Jacques Azibert, paid a special tribute to the educated women ‘whose contributions to the development of Yemeni society are marked and tangible, be it in health, politics, development, education, and so on.’ He added, “In particular I should appreciate the role of our female colleagues who contributed to the construction of Yemen LNG project, the largest in Yemen.”

For her part, Dr. Jawhra Hamoud, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, thanked Yemen LNG management for providing development programs, namely in education, for women in rural areas. “I am confident that when a woman receives proper education she can find the appropriate place to prosper and therefore contribute to the development of her own country.”

Equitas is Delighted to Honour the Youth Leadership Development Foundation (Yemen) on Int\'l HR Day
11th December, 2013
Montreal, December 10, 2013: Experience has shown that young people are key actors in building more inclusive, equitable and resilient communities. Yet, too often children and youth are seen as the source of problems rather than solutions. This International Human Rights Day, Equitas is celebrating the work of two exceptional organizations that are applying innovative and effective approaches to engage and empower youth to bring about positive change in their communities. The recipients of the 2014 Equitas Award for Human Rights Education are:  the Youth Leadership Development Foundation - YLDF (Yemen) and the Society for Children and Youth of British Columbia – SCY (Canada). The Awards will be presented at two Gala Cocktails to take place in Toronto on March 18th and in Montreal on March 20th.

“Equitas is privileged to honour two of our partners who are doing incredible work with young people in very challenging circumstances,” says Equitas Executive Director Ian Hamilton. “As we mark International Human Rights Day, we can all take inspiration from the courage and determination that they demonstrate on a daily basis in making human rights a motivational force in the lives of children and youth.”
